I've been out of the clay for a few weeks now. The long, cold Montreal winter has taken its toll on me. i need to warm up and recharge my battery. It's been close to a week now and I'm feeling the need to make. Creating gives me so much satisfaction. I need to make. But at the moment I realize that i want to make handmade pieces. i want to make sculptural pieces with small details that make my heart race. I want to create elements that catch the eye of the viewer and transport them to another place in the recesses of their mind. That is my intention.

It's the day after Valentine's day and I came upon this heart blockprint. It was a gift from India and I've carried it around with me for years. When I first began working with clay in 2003, I was very fortunate to take a workshop at a community center. There I learned to make pinch pots and coil pots, to create texture with stamps and found objects, to work with earthenware and stoneware and porcelain, to  make paper clay and mold it onto shapes I never imagined.  I was given free reign to experiment with oxides and pigments and colors. It was the beginning of a love affair with ceramics that continues to to this day. Which in this case is kind of fitting.
